Carlos Lee plays third in line-up during first game for Miami Marlins after trade - MLB Update
Carlos Lee appears in the line-up for the first time for the Miami Marlins after being traded from the Houston Astros on Wednesday. Playing third in the line-up, veteran first baseman was at-ease on the plate as he struck two hits in four at-bats.
He is excited wearing a new uniform and looks forward to becoming an important link in their success.
Lee is aware of fact where Miami stands at the moment and what they need to bolster their progress toward making it into the play-offs. A place which he assumes in the line-up now has seen disappointing performance by the player who held it previously. Therefore,
by putting up far better shows on the plate, he can help the club build up long winning streaks.
Miami has been struggling with regard to offence since the start of the season. Continuation of the same will make it difficult for them to increase their winning percentage. Getting closer to earning a wild-card spot, let alone the leading position will
not be easier.
Therefore, change in the status quo demanded new steps from the management. Trade which entailed giving up two Minor League prospects namely Matt Dominguez and Rob Rasmussen in return for Lee was the result of one of those steps.
Commenting on why he chose Miami, Lee stated that he has been entertaining wishes for playing with this club. Furthermore, he explained that by being in this organisation, he can give his family more time.
"There was a reason I didn't block Miami," he said. "It was one of the teams I wanted to play for. Thinking about me and thinking about the family at the same time, and what was best for my career, I thought Miami was a good choice. I saw rumors. It's all
talk. It happened and I'm happy to be here now."
Miami had an inauguration of their New Marlins Park before the start of the season. This was accompanied by a star-studded roster they had for this year.
Therefore, their penchant for achieving glory this year is understandable. In this respect, one hopes that the inclusion of Lee will render them in to the kind of side they are trying to become.
