Carlos Lee’s dominant performance help Houston Astros humiliate Milwaukee Brewers, 5-0: MLB Update
Houston Astros' left-fielder, Carlos Lee, was leading from the front right through the game as he struck three-run homer in the Astros 5-0 victory against the Milwaukee Brewers at the Minute Maid Park in Houston on May 1.
Both the teams were unable to score a run in the first inning. During second inning, Bill Hall completed his third continuous single with no outs and gave the Astros a 1-0 lead. Brett Wallace and Lee both contributed equally for the Astros by taking singles.
Wallace extended his hitting streak to 10 games.
The third, fourth and fifth inning remained scoreless for both the teams. Then Lee struck a home run against the Brewers' starter, Chris Narveson, in the sixth inning to extend the lead by 3-0. During the seventh inning, Lee suffered an injury on collision
with his team-mate, Angel Sanchez, who was sliding, but found Lee’s ribs in front of him.
According to assessment, it was a serious injury in the left rib-cage, but the chest X-ray did not show any fracture in the ribs. Lee will be out from the next few games for a complete recovery.
The Astros' Manager, Brad Mills, was sure that Lee will continue his performance whenever he make his comeback. Speaking to reporters, Mills said, “He'll be OK. When he gets over this, he's going to come back and be fine. He had the two hits and the big
home run which was nice. When he's healed, he'll pick up right where he left off and be fine.”
During seventh inning, Matt Downs played his role when he attained the second base on the error of Casey McGehee and posted a run on the two-out single of Jason Bourgeois. With that single, the Astros took a lead to 5-0. Humberto Quintero also played a shot
for the double-play, but he was struck out without scoring a run.
The Astros' starter, Bud Norris, also shined in his club’s victory as he did not permit any run on three hits and struck out 11 batters in 7 2/3 inning pitches. Norris said of his performance, “I was in a groove. I was comfortable and the slider was really
working for me today. I just threw a lot of strikes.”
The Astros' relievers Jeff Fulchino, Mark Melancon and Fernando Abad all put combined effort in pitching 1 1/3 innings and did not give a single run to the Brewers’ hitters.
