Carlos Molina for Amir Khan: He was so fast and I could not get in – Boxing news
Briton fighter Amir Khan is well known for his speed and long reach. For a short stocky opponent, going against Khan comes with no advantages, and that is exactly what happened with American fighter Carlos Molina, who tasted the first ever defeat of his
career at the hands of the Briton.
For Molina, it was an awful moment to realise that no matter what he does, he was unable to get through Khan’s jabs to get a clean shot. Both fighters went head to head on December 15 in Los Angeles. It was Khan’s comeback match and surely he did not disappoint.
“I don't know what happened. I couldn't pull the trigger, just couldn't get through,” said Molina, who suffered a tenth round TKO defeat at the hands of Khan. “He was so fast and I couldn't get in because he has a long jab. I felt I connected two or three
times but I wasn't in the right place to reconnect when I rocked him.”
Molina was an easy hunt for Khan. Although the former WBA and IBF light welterweight titlist believes he has made a strong comeback, boxing fanatics know there was nothing special about the victory. Khan in every way had advantages over Molina, whether it
was his reach advantage or his speed. Molina stands as a fighter with no punching power, medium reach and nearly half of Khan’s speed. With all of this, Khan was in for a publicity stunt nothing more.
“Carlos took some really good shots and he was still coming forward and that's when I thought I better stick to the plan. Virgil is a great trainer and I'm getting better at boxing and becoming the complete fighter. He is teaching me speed and power, when
to throw the big shots,” said Khan for the fight, probably to make it up to his fans who were heart broken when the Briton was knocked out in the fourth round by Danny Garcia.
For Molina, his boxing career has almost ended. It was his only chance to make a name in the business but he failed.
