Carlos Molina scheduled to take on James Kirkland in a 10-round skirmish – Boxing news
Carlos Amado Molina, the former WBO NABO light middleweight champion, will take on James Kirkland, also the former WBO NABO light middleweight champion, in a 10-round semi final bout which will decide the name of the pugilist who will take on Vanes Martirosyan
in the WBC final title elimination bout.
The duo will co-headline the HBO Saturday night event which will take place on March 24, 2012. The whole pay-per-view is promoted and organised by Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions and the ring for the event will be setup at Reliant Arena situated
in Houston, Texas, United States.
The special weekly edition will also witness the headline WBC light welterweight championship 12-round bout between Erik Morales and Danny Garcia. Molina, 28, has been in a total 25 bouts and came out victorious in 19. He has collected 6 of his total wins
by knockout.
Also known as the ‘King’, Molina is on a long undefeated win streak after his three back-to-back losses to Mike Alvarado, Wayland Willingham, and Julio Cesar Chavez Junior. Carlos took on a far more experienced Danny Perez in a 12-round bout in June 2006
and not only collected a unanimous decision in his favour but also grasped the WBO NABO light middleweight gold.
Carlos lies a bit behind the American James as far as experience is concerned. James, 28, has been in a total 31 bouts and has lost just one brawl to Japanese sensation Nobuhiro Ishida.
Kirkland, also known as the ‘Mandingo Warrior’, recently nailed Alfredo Angulo in the sixth round via technical knockout and collected the WBC continental Americas light middleweight gold.
James and Molina both are of same height and even cover the same reach area. James has not fought many big names unlike Carlos who has brawled more experienced men in his recent bouts as compared to James.
Kirkland will face severe difficulty in pinning Carlos since he is a tough belligerent and does not follow the full throttle forward attack game plan. Carlos carefully throws his punches while maintaining his strength and does not get exhausted early.
James was lucky to nail Angulo since the latter threw all what he had in order to get a knockout win and James just kept on waiting and later on leashed well targeted jabs eventually nailing Alfredo. Carlos is totally different as he is a resilient brawler
who takes the punishment or evades it while wearing the opponent out with fatigue and then goes in for the kill.
The bout will be a classic and at the moment the odds are in Molina’s favour since he is on a huge winning streak and just collected one draw decision in a bout against Erislandy Lara.
