Carlos Molina talks about fighting Amir Khan – Boxing News
American unbeaten fighter Carlos Molina expressed his excitement over fighting Briton fighter Amir Khan, during a press conference held in Los Angeles. Molina currently stands with 17 wins, 0 losses, 1 tie and 7 knockouts in his portfolio, whereas Khan stands
with 26 wins, 3 losses and 18 knockouts in his bag. On paper, Khan vs. Molina is a mismatch, since the former is a way more experienced fighter.
Nevertheless, Molina is not intimidated by Khan’s accomplishments in the division. He is confident and excited over facing the former WBA and IBF unified light welterweight titlist.
“The fight took two days to be made from my end,” said Molina in an interview with RingTV.com. “My manager, Frank Espinoza, called me in late September. He asked me if I would be interested in fighting Amir Khan. I said ‘h**l yeah!’”
For a fighter like Molina, a fight against Khan is probably a dream fight.
“A day later, he called me while I was at my mom’s house. He said ‘You got it.’ I said ‘Frank, I love you.’ I was so excited that I went running after I told my family. I didn’t sleep for two days I was so happy,” he added.
Molina knows it well that Khan edges him in nearly every aspect of the sport. The Briton is four inches taller than Molina, is faster and has much more ring experience. Yet, the unbeaten American reveals he was head over heels when he heard about getting
a shot at Amir Khan.
“Khan’s got a good jab, fast hands and he’s a good overall athlete, but he has flaws,” he added.
According to Molina, Khan drops his guard when he punches in combination, which is the point where his opponents can take advantage of him.
The fight is as important for Molina as it is for Khan. While the unbeaten American will be looking to add a name like Khan to his list of defeated opponents, the latter will be more concerned about reviving his career with a dominating win.
Molina is inexperienced but he might just catch Khan at his weakest points, the same way Danny Garcia did it earlier this year.
