Carlos Quentin, Edwin Jackson dominate as Chicago White Sox defeat Los Angeles Angels 8-0 - MLB

The Chicago White Sox slugger, Carlos Quentin added five runs and starter Edwin Jackson tossed seven shut-out innings, as the club crushed the Los Angeles Angels 8-0 in the first of the three-game series at Angels Stadium on Monday, May 9.
Chicago’s second baseman, Gordon Beckham launched a huge two-run homer, his first of the season, off the Angels starter Ervin Santana in the second providing an early 2-0 lead. After a phenomenal start, Carlos entered the plate in the third and hit a line
drive RBI single to open his account.
Jackson gave just five scoreless hits and one walk while striking out five over seven innings to take his third win of the season. Jackson, who now has a 3-4 record with a 4.29 ERA was excited to have such a brilliant outing.
Jackson said, "It was definitely a great feeling. When you look up and you have early run support, you do not have to be as perfect and you can attack the hitters. When the offence is swinging like that, you just want to get them back in as quick as possible
so they can continue to swing."
Jackson received full support from reliever Chris Sale and closer Will Ohman as both pitchers did not yield any run in their single inning spell.
Carlos added another RBI single off Ervin in the fifth inning to take his club to 4-0. Then in the seventh, Alexei Ramirez swung his bat for a 369-feet long 5-0 homer to aggravate Ervin’s evening. Just after the homer, Trevor Bell relieved Santana and immediately
gave away a double to Adam Dunn.
Bell lost his confidence completely and gave away a straight walk followed by a three-run homer to Carlos, his third hit of the game that took the score to 8-0.
The Sox Manager Ozzie Guillen was pleased to have a splendid back-to-back performance by the batters.
Guillen told reporters, "The last couple of days we started to swing the bat better, and we carried it into today's game. We did a great job making Santana throw a lot of pitches, got some good pitches to hit and took advantage of that. Santana's been tough
against us a lot of times, but tonight we made him throw the ball around the plate."
Closer Francisco Rodriguez pitched two innings and one strike-out without allowing a run over the last two innings, as he did not receive any support from the batters.
The Angels’ manager Mike Scioscia will be looking to make some suitable changes in the line-up to stop the Sox from earning a 2-0 lead in the next game on Tuesday, May 10.
