Carlos Quintana: I will nail Saul Alvarez in front of his countrymen – Boxing News
Carlos Quintana, the former WBO welterweight champion, in a recent press conference bashed Saul Alvarez, the current WBC light middleweight champion, saying that he will nail the undefeated lad in front of his countrymen adding that the long rivalry between
Puerto Rico and Mexico will spice up the clash.
Saul, 21, is currently waiting for the finalisation of the man against whom he will defend his title for the fifth time in a row. The young undefeated champion is scheduled to enter the ring against an opponent still to be decided on September 15, 2012.
According to the recent tidings, most probably it would be Carlos who will get a shot at the Mexican’s title but still things are needed to be resolved and an official announcement will be made soon.
As for now, Carlos has made a statement and a pretty blunt one. During the short media interaction, Quintana excitedly shared his feelings on colliding with the light middleweight who has in just 21-years of age secured the second spot in the World Boxing
Organisation’s rankings.
Carlos stated, “I will defeat Canelo on Mexican Independence Day in front of his countrymen!” It must be noted that September 15 is celebrated in Mexico as an Independence Day it is this reason why Carlos has vowed to gift the undefeated Mexican his career’s
first ever defeat on his country’s Independence Day.
Quintana, 35, has been in a total 32 bouts and emerged victorious in 29. The Puerto Rican proud has collected 23 of his wins by knockout and though has collected three losses as well still possesses an impressive resume.
Also known as ‘El Indio’, Carlos further added, “It would be a great matchup between me and Canelo. Stylistically, we both like to come forward and mix it up and with the fight being on Mexican Independence Day. The longstanding rivalry between Mexico and
Puerto Rico will only add to what promises to be an exciting fight.”
Saul has been attracting much attention of a number of top-notch pugilists. The reason for it is quite simple as Alvarez boasts 40 wins in a total 41 bouts. In addition, he also holds the WBC light middleweight title which he has defended successfully against
names such as Shane Mosley, Kermit Cintron, and others.
The engagement and name of Saul’s opponent is still under consideration but most probably it will be Carlos who has been eyeballing the Mexican lad vigorously and for a pretty long time.
