Carlos Ruiz put on 15-day disabled list as MRI unveils tear in his left foot - MLB News
The Philadelphia Phillies have placed their catcher Carlos Ruiz on 15-day disabled list after the MRI examination unveils a slight tear of his plantar fasciitis in his left foot.
Ruiz kept playing with the injury for as long as the management realised that they cannot risk his lengthy outage from the Major League Baseball if they do not withdraw him timely. The infielder Hector Luna from the Triple-A Lehigh Valley will be filling
the position that is now vacant with his absence on the roster.
On Saturday, Erik Kratz played as a catcher for the Phillies in the game. Though Kratz stepped up and struck a home-run, Ruiz remains a foremost priority for the club.
Once Ruiz recovers, he will be thrust the catching job right away by the management.
Ruiz has been one of the most successful catchers in the season. He has earned the prestige of catching during the All-Star Game that was played this year.
Furthermore, he boasts an incredible .335 batting average thus far, along with .399 on-base percentage.
While the Phillies’ offence experienced slump in the season, Ruiz has remained an exception in the team.
The number of RBIs and the home-runs that he has struck this year are reflective of the great season that Ruiz has gone through. He has hammered 14 home-runs and has contributed 58 RBIs.
The Phillies have traded some of their hitters as part of the selling strategy before the trade deadline. This has weakened their offence. In this regard, an injury by Ruiz can exacerbate their offensive woes in the season.
Meanwhile, Ruiz has discussed how his injury took such a severe form from being an innocuous one at the start.
"It was real mild when it started," he said. "And I wanted to stay in the lineup, because that's what you do. But it was getting worse every day. I had good days, like that last day in Atlanta [on July 29]. I was feeling great, less pain than before. But
then it got me real good and I felt that it had to be something, because there's no way that I'm going to feel OK one day and then feel real bad the next day."
Ruiz will be looking to recover as soon as possible and resume playing in the season again.
