Carlos Ruiz suspended for 25 games of 2013 Major League regular season - MLB Update
For using a banned substance namely amphetamine, Philadelphia Phillies’ catcher Carlos Ruiz has been suspended by Major League Baseball for 25 games of the 2013 season.
Though MLB has permitted him to appear in Exhibition Games and Spring Training, he cannot participate in the season until completing his ban.
The report will be another setback for the Phillies, following their unsuccessful campaign in the last season. They are already trying to fill vacant spots on their roster and making sure that they add all those players in the team that are needed by them.
Suspension of Carlos has created another task to be accomplished for team officials during the on-going offseason. They will be searching for replacements.
Although Erik Kratz is capable of doing the job extremely well in the absence of Carlos, he cannot be relied on solely.
Phillies, at the moment, are h**l-bent to frame up such a unit that brings their pride back by winning the Division title next year. During the 2012 season, they lost it to the Washington Nationals after clinching it for the last five years.
In light of this, the upcoming season is a great challenge for both the players and the team management.
Carlos’ performance, both as catcher and a batter down the line-up was amazing in the last season. In-fact, he was one of the few bright spots for the club in the midst of failures and losing streaks.
It will not be a surprise if he delivers match winning shows in 2013 season.
Unfortunately, he can do nothing right now but repent and serve the ban.
"I am sincerely regretful for my mistake in taking a prohibited stimulant," Ruiz said. "I apologize to my teammates, the Phillies organization and the Philadelphia fans. I will serve the imposed 25-game suspension to begin the season and I look forward to
returning to the field and working toward bringing a championship back to Philadelphia in 2013."
It is a positive sign for the Phillies that Carlos is aware of his mistake and is committed to come back and play for the team.
The club will be hoping that Carlos learns a lesson from his suspension and never uses banned drugs again in his career.
