Carlos Sainz Jr. says he will miss Fernando Alonso at Young Driver Test – Formula 1 news
Spanish racing driver, Carlos Sainz Jr. has said that he is excitedly looking forward to take part in the Young Driver Test at Silverstone circuit but admitted that he will miss the presence of his favourite driver, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari.
Alonso turned down the opportunity to take part in the YDT as the FIA only permitted the race drivers to test the new Pirelli tyres for the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Sainz expressed that he is feeling immensely pleased to get a chance to drive an F1 car in the test. Moreover, he said that he is targeting to gather the essential data for his team to make the necessary progress for the forthcoming races. Besides, he said
that most of his focus will be on simulator during the test. Although, he stated that he is very happy to take part in the test, he will miss Alonso.
“I’m not testing, because I’m not allowed to test (car developments)!” he is quoted by Italy’s La Repubblica. ”Instead, I have important work to do on the simulator.”
“Yeah, I would have loved that,” he told EFE news agency.
“So instead of being 110 per cent happy, now it’s just 100,” the son of former World Rally Champion Carlos Sainz joked.
Additionally, he said that even though he is taking part in the test, it doesn’t mean he will be able to make his way into the sport as a racing driver in the next season. He insisted that he still need to work hard so as to improve his driving skills in
order to make his place in F1.
“Being here (at Silverstone circuit) doesn’t guarantee anything. I want to make clear that my goal is to do well in GP3, then try to be in the (Renault) World Series. I think there are still a few years until the time (for Formula 1) comes,” he added.
It will be interesting to see how the 18-year-old performs in the test and whether he will be able to secure a race seat at any team in F1 in the future or not.
