Carlos Santana impresses Cleveland Indians’ Manny Acta with home-runs against Texas Rangers
The Cleveland Indians were unable to compete with the Texas Rangers as they lost 4-10 on Tuesday, September 13 at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.
However, the Indians walked off the field with a positive offensive highlight from their catcher, Carlos Santana. The 25-year-old managed to get three runs in the Indians’ total tally of four runs in the loss to the Rangers.
The catcher was on his toes from the very start and he delivered the team, a much needed boost early on, when the Rangers gained speed on their scoring form with early pickings in the innings against Justin Masterson.
Santana availed the record of being the first Indians hitter since Victor Martinez on June 1, 2007 to homer from both ends of the plate in the same game. He also became the seventh switch hitter in team history to do that. The two homers came in from in
the fourth and eighth inning.
The player smashed his first homer against the Rangers’ regular starter, Matt Harrison. His second shot came up against Mark Lowe. The player was also involved in an error play by reliever Michael Gonzalez. The Rangers’ hurler pitched a wild ball to Shelly
Duncan in the top sixth. His folly allowed Santana to score his second run of the game.
The star ended the game with a 3-for-4 knock. He led two hitters home and he scored three runs on his own. His season batting average is .236 but Manny Acta is not worried about that.
"Other than the batting average, I think it's been a year for him to learn and make adjustments at this level," Acta said. "How can you complain with probably 25 or more [home runs], he's probably going to set the record for switch-hitters for the Cleveland
Indians and over 80 RBIs? The batting average, I'm sure that's going to come along."
Manager Acta has been impressed with Santana and it seems like the catcher is going to be an important figure in the line up next season, as well.
