Carlos Santana shines as Cleveland Indians defeat Baltimore Orioles 8-4 – MLB Recap
Cleveland Indians’ catcher, Carlos Santana had a remarkable day with the bat as he went 2-for-5 with an average of .233 and hit three RBIs in the Indians’ 8-4 win against the Baltimore Orioles at Oriole Park, Baltimore on July 14.
The Indians took a 3-0 lead during the first inning. Asdrubal Cabrera hit a home-run (367 feet) to right-field while Santana struck a two-run homer (407 feet) to right-centre field and Travis Hafner posted a single run. In the second inning, the batters
got out without contributing any run.
The Indians’ offence continued to extend their lead as they scored a single run at the top of the third while the Orioles got off the mark by adding two runs during the third inning. Michael Brantley added a single run on the double-run shot of Santana towards
deep left-field and Hafner occupied third base in no time.
Blake Davis and Craig Tatum both scored the two collective runs for the Orioles when Nick Markakis singled off left-field. The score-board advanced to 4-2 at the end of third inning. The pitchers restricted the batters in the fourth and fifth inning by tossing
accurate throws.
The Indians’ starter, Justin Masterson was little bit shaky with the ball as he pitched six innings with an ERA of 2.80 and permitted four runs on eight hits with four earned runs. He allowed only one walk and had eight strike-outs on his 105 pitches.
Speaking to reporters, Masterson said, "It was great for us to come out kind of firing. It gave not only myself but the rest of us a lot of confidence, the ability to go back out there and get back in the rhythm of things that we've missed out in the last
three days.”
During the sixth inning, the Indians blasted four runs to raise their lead when Grady Sizemore, Orlando Cabrera, Brantley and Matt LaPorta each singled to complete a four-run campaign. On the other side, the Orioles’ batters were able to add just two runs
to reduce their lead 8-4 at the bottom of the sixth inning. Matt Wieters and Derrek Lee contributed two run for the Orioles.
With this impressive victory, the Indians took a 1-0 lead against the Orioles in a four-game series at Baltimore.
