Carlos Santana’s grand slam helps Cleveland Indians defeat Detroit Tigers 9-5 – MLB Update
Carlos Santana’s bat awakened at the most critical time on Friday, April 29 to obtain a breathtaking 9-5 win for Cleveland Indians against Detroit Tigers at Progressive Field, Cleveland.
The encounter was an exciting extravaganza owing to Santana’s grand slam hit in the ninth inning just when the score was standing at a nerve-wrecking 5-5. Cleveland, who have now won 11 straight games have emerged as a serious contender for the post-season.
They have managed to put in good performances in their previous games, giving them a solid winning record.
In reality, it is a fairly calculated strategy that they have adopted along with an enviable team effort that makes things easier for them. Santana had a sensation of joy when asked about his performance. "I had the opportunity. I tried to get good contact
and win it for the team. I was not thinking too much. Very exciting," Santana said of his first career grand slam, the seventh game-ending grand slam. “I'm very happy.”
The game began with the Tigers’ extraordinarily audacious offensive attack. Jeanmar Gomez who had come out to pitch for Cleveland was subject to two massive hits that allowed Detroit’s hitters get an early 2-0 lead. Miguel Cabrera hit a two-run homer to
left allowing Will Rhymes to score.
Max Scherzer was unrelenting with the pace of his fastballs, keeping the Cleveland offence on edge. The game saw things change once again when Alex Avila of the Tigers scored the third run for his team, keeping Gomez open-mouthed, as he gave up three hits
in the inning.
Cleveland came back in the match after five scoreless innings. Shelley Duncan scored a two-run single, bringing the team close to 3-2. However, when Chad Durbin replaced Gomez, little did the Cleveland pitcher know what was in store for him, as Jhonny Peralta
singled to centre and Alex Avila then hit a sacrifice fly to left to take the score to 5-2 for the Tigers.
The Indians got back in the encounter in the seventh inning with Matt LaPorta’s homer followed by Asdrubal Cabrera much-needed two runs. That tied the score 5-5, adding to the exhilaration that was lying ahead.
Santana completely turned things upside down for Detroit when he hit a sensational massive grand slam hit that entitled the Indians and deprived the Tigers, to win a memorable 9-5 victory at Cleveland.
