Carlos Santana’s triple RBIs help Cleveland Indians defeat Boston Red Sox 7-3 - MLB Update
Cleveland Indians’ catcher, Carlos Santana had an extraordinary day with the bat as he hit three RBIs including two runs and went 3-for-4 with an average of .232 in the Indians’ 7-3 win against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park, Boston on August 4.
Red Sox added two runs at the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. Adrian Gonzalez doubled to centre-field and Jacoby Ellsbury scored a single run. The second run for the Red Sox was taken by Gonzalez when David Ortiz hit a single-run shot towards
right-centre. In the second inning, the Indians’ batters also contributed two runs to tie the game 2-2.
Matt LaPorta occupied first base on an infield single and Santana posted the first run for the Indians. Kosuke Fukudome scored a tie run for the Indians when Austin Kearns was grounded out to first base. Later on, LaPorta moved to second base to end the
second inning. The Indians went ahead 3-2 in the third inning by posting a single run.
Santana singled off right-centre, Asdrubal Cabrera posted a single run and Travis Hafner occupied second base at the top of the third inning. Red Sox again levelled the game 3-3 during the fourth inning when Josh Reddick struck a solo homer (397 feet) to
right-field. In the fifth inning, the batters looked powerless in front of the tricky pitches and failed to score runs.
Indians took a 5-3 lead in the sixth inning when Santana hit a two-run homer (415 feet) towards centre-field and Hafner added one run to their score-card. In the seventh inning, the Indians continued to raise their lead 6-3 by scoring one run. Hafner hit
a double-run drive towards deep centre-field and Cabrera posted a single run.
Ellsbury had a walk during the eighth inning but the rest of his team-mates were grounded out and struck-out to various field positions. Indians’ starter, Justin Masterson permitted three runs, five hits and three earned runs with an ERA of 2.63. He gave
up only one walk and one home-run in his six inning pitches. Masterson struck-out nine batters on his 118 pitches.
In the ninth inning, the Indians led off 7-3 when Cabrera scored one run on the drive of Fukudome to left-field. However, the Indians tied the four-game series 2-2 after a decent victory.
