Carlos Tamara confident to take on Ricardo Nunez for IBF flyweight’s 2nd position – Boxing News
Carlos Tamara, the former WBO and WBC Latino light flyweight champion, will take on Ricardo Nunez, the current WBA Fedelatin flyweight champion, in a 12-round bout and will strive hard to win the bout so as to become eligible for the clash with current IBF
flyweight champion, Moruti Mthalane.
The bout is scheduled to take place on April 26, 2012 and the duo will meet in the ring stretched at Arena Roberto Duran situated in Panama City, Panama. The pay-per-view is being promoted by Rogelio Espino of Promociones del Istmo and Ricardo-Carlos bout
will headline the Thursday night event.
Carlos will enter the ring with just one ambition in his mind to secure the second spot in the IBF rankings. The task is clearly a tough one since Ricardo boasts a resume far better than Colombian Tamara.
Carlos, 29, has been in a total 29 bouts and emerged victorious in 22. He has nailed 16 of his opponents by knockout and has successfully held the WBC and WBO Latino flyweight title several times.
In addition, he has collected wins over many big names such as Omar Andres Narvaez, Juan Esquer, Alfonso De la Hoz and many others. Widely known as ‘El Olimpico’, Carlos has put forth the boxing fanatics some impressive and memorable performances but is
currently going through a bit difficult stage of his career.
In his last five bouts, Carlos has collected two losses, one draw decisions and just two wins, one of them against a rookie who was in his career’s 12th bout. This fact has confused most of the critics who are now expecting Ricardo to be the winner of the
bout.
Ricardo, 24, has been in a total 25 bouts and emerged victorious in 23. He has collected 19 of his total wins by knockout. In addition, since his last loss to Drian Francisco, the young Panamanian proud is on a continuous win streak and has not only pinned
big names but also held the WBC Latino Flyweight gold thrice and grabbed the WBA Fedelatin flyweight title from Oscar Blanquet.
All the factors are pinpointing Ricardo as the possible winner of the bout but Carlos is not heeding such rumours in fact is confident that he will not miss the golden chance of his life.
During the media interaction, Tamara commented, “This fight presents the opportunity to secure a new world championship and to be in the forefront again. My dream is to regain a world title and to keep it for a long time. After the last fight I had in Mexico,
it took five months to find a new opportunity and I’m hoping not to waste (this chance, and) then I’ll go for the title of Moruti Mthalane in South Africa.”
Carlos can only rise at the occasion if he is undergoing strenuous training and hard work and is determined to prove that he still possesses the soul of a champion and can nail the best in the division.
