The player is looking to open his account against Timisoara on Thursday, in the Europa League playoff, first leg in Romania. The club captain failed to fire in the Premier League opener against Tottenham on Saturday, which ended in a 0-0 draw. The player was phenomenal with City last season, scoring 29 goals in all competitions.
The Argentinean forward stated that being a striker, he needs to set targets for the entire season and hopes to score more goals this time round. The 26-year old helped his former club, Manchester United win the 2008 UEFA Champions League, but was now very proud to wear the captains arm band at Manchester City. Tevez claimed that he was very happy to be the captain and would want to thank manager Roberto Mancini for believing in him.
"All games and all competitions are very important to me. I hope to win a trophy for City", claimed the 26 year old Argentinean. The player is looking forward to partner Mario Balotelli upfront, who recently signed with the Eastlands from Inter Milan. The 20-year old striker is expected to play in the Europa League tie with Timisoara, following his successful registration with UEFA in time.
The club captain praised Balotelli’s ability, stating that he is an excellent player. The player added that he knows him since his Inter Milan time and the player played extremely well with the Serie A champions. There are some minor adjustments to the squad from the one which played at White Hart Lane, as City would be with Jerome Boateng and Aleksander Kolarov. Joe Hart is the confirmed goalkeeper of the match, ahead of Shay Given.
Manchester City manager believes that City has the depth in its squad, which can promise success both at home and abroad. The manager stated that the Europa League is very important for him, the players and the supporters. The manager claimed that City goes into every match with a winning mentality, no matter what the competition. Mancini insisted that the Europa League match would be their first in Europe, and would be a challenge since they are away from home. Timisoara have issued a big incentive to its top players, claiming that should the team reach the group stages of the competition, they would be awarded with 100,000 Euros each. The club’s coach claimed that it would be unwise for Mancini to underestimate them, as they would give their all against the high spending club.
Moving on, England midfielder James Milner claims the Premier League title to be his prime target, following his much anticipated move to Manchester City. The player has revealed that winning trophies was the major reason behind him signing with Manchester City.
"It didn't take too much selling by the boss (Roberto Mancini) when you see the players who are already here and the plans for the club”, claimed the 24-year old midfielder. The player added that Mancini took little time in making his intentions clear of playing him in the upcoming game. Milner added that the coach wanted him to be ready to win the Premier League, which is now the midfielder’s prime aim. However, James stated that there is a lot of competition at the club to earn a first team spot. This is exactly where Milner wanted to be and is ambitious to win silverware with is new club. Milner added that this is the perfect place to start winning trophies and medals and that is exactly what needs to be done sooner rather than later.
Milner is unlikely to feature in the Europa League tie, as he is not registered with UEFA under Manchester City. However, he would be hopeful of featuring in the Premier League, when Manchester City, host Liverpool on Monday. The player has already scored his first goal of the season, but with his former club Aston Villa. However, Milner would be looking to aid his team mates to goal scoring opportunities and take a shot or two at goal himself.
