Carlos Tevez says Manchester City should not lose focus against minnows in the league
English Premier League has long been a 4 horse race, well in terms of Champions League qualification at least. However as far as winning the title is concerned it was only a 2 horse race till the turn of the decade. Manchester
United and Arsenal had been exchanging punches for the title till 2004, that is when Roman Abramovic pumped in big cash at Stamford bridge and Chelsea finally won 2 back to back league titles. As for Liverpool well right now they are fighting hard to even
finish 4th, and have not really been title contenders in the Premier League era. Still it continues to remain a league dominated by the big 4.
In recent seasons number of teams have tried to break the monopoly at the top, and back in 2005 Everton managed to finish 4th. Even though they actually did not make it to the Champions League but they did beat Liverpool
in the race. Last season it was Tottenham who managed to end 4th and are now playing in the Champions League. Manchester City is one team that under the new ownership of Abu Dhabi based business group, has started the surge to move up towards the
top 4 of the league.
Roberto Mancini’s team did make a strong statement by beating the defending champions Chelsea 1-0 on the weekend. But looking back City do have a history of beating the big names in the league but ending up losing to the lesser
ones which affects the overall position in the league.
Carlos Tevez, the Argentine striker believes that his team has to change its habit of dropping silly points, and this is the right time to do so.
The newly appointed Manchester City captain while talking to a British newspaper said that City always comes up with the goods against big teams, but it is the other matches where concentration seems to drop. He believes that if
his team can manage to keep the same level of performance throughout it can take them a long way.
Tevez said : "We always play very well against the big teams but the important thing now is we concentrate and play the same game against the smaller teams.
"If we can do that it will take us to the next level."
The former Manchester United front man said that the win against Chelsea was a big step towards the right direction; he added that Manchester City has big plans for this season and a good win against the champions was just the
boost they needed.
"This was a great result in the battle for the Championship. It was really important we won.
"I like playing against most teams but seem to make a special mark against Chelsea.
"We are becoming a strong team and as captain it's important I give them the strength and spirit to continue this way." Said Tevez
Carlos Tevez personally has had a great record against Chelsea; in 3 matches that he has played he has scored 4 goals against the Blues.
Manchester City are dubbed as the team to watch this season; with a spending spree of 130 million pounds in the summer, City brought in world class names like David Silva from Valencia, Yaya Toure from Barcelona, Mario Balotelli
from Inter Milan and number of other well known players from Europe.
City Boss Roberto Mancini is a man who has tasted good success with his time at Inter Milan, and has said that his aim is to take Manchester City to new heights to prove that he spent the money wisely and can make the big names
play together as a unit.
The Italian said that this season the aim remains to finish at least 4th, and by next year they should be strong title challengers. He added that still if he does have a shot at the title in the final few months he will
not hold back.
