Carlos Vela and Efrain Juarez given 6 month ban
Carlos Vela and Efrain Juarez have been banned by Mexico for six months after they allegedly held a party at the team hotel. Arsenal’s Vela and Celtic’s Juarez were believed to have organised the party that has led to a number of fines and suspensions.
The party took place on the September 8th, after Mexico beat Columbia 1-0 in a friendly held at Monterrey. Manchester United’s Javier Hernandez, Tottenham Hotspur’s Giovani Dos Santos, Fulham’s Carlos Salcido and West Ham’s Pablo Barrera were
all fined £2,517 following the incident.
The Mexican Captain Rafael Marquez, Guillermo Ochoa, Francisco Rodriguez, Enrique Esqueda, Andres Guardado, Hector Moreno and Gerardo Torrado were all fined and punished after the Mexican Football authorities investigated the incident.
Vela and Juarez were handed out the suspensions as they were considered the main culprits in the incident. Their suspensions were back-dated, which means the duo will not be able to return until the 8th of March.
Mexico’s next match is a friendly against Poland on the 12th of October. The new interim manager Efrain Flores will not want a similar incident to take place. Flores took over the team after Mexico’s successful World Cup campaign in South Africa.
The hotel party seems to be a one off incident and neither Arsenal or Celtic will penalise Vela or Juarez for the role in the affair. Similarly, other clubs have not punished their players as of yet with regards to the incident. None of the players have
bad records in relation to their off-the-field affairs.
The ban for Vela and Juarez will mean that they will miss out for a number of competitive games and the two will also miss out when a new manager is expected to take over from Flores. Flores will be disappointed to lose the two players, but has also shown
that he will not tolerate this type behaviour from senior international players
