Carlos Vela transfer saga
It has been confirmed that Arsenal’s young striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Carlos-Vela-c8558 will join West Bromwich Albion on loan for the rest of this season.
The young Mexican striker had fallen down the pecking order at Arsenal after the arrival of Chamakh and the recent rise in form of both http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nicklas-Bendtner-c27726. Vela has also failed to cement his place in the 15-man squad, majorly featuring
in the Cup matches for Arsenal.
However, Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger claimed earlier in the start of this month that his preference would be to send the 21-year-old footballer on loan, in order to get more playing time.
Despite featuring rarely this season, Vela was the target of few Premier League clubs, including the likes of Bolton Wanderers, Everton and the Spanish side http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valencia-c40863.
Moreover, the Mexican footballer showed his desire for a move to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 but Wenger insisted that he wanted his striker to get Premier League experience, and it would be easier for him to keep track of Vela’s progress there.
Arsenal Manager also stated that Carlos would be loaned to a club who would ensure more first team opportunities.
West Bromwich Albion is one of the newly-promoted clubs, and they have been performing extremely well so far in the current season. Although Di Matteo’s men have struggled in front of the net, they only managed to score 29 goals in 23 matches.
However, Vela’s agent Eduardo Hernandez confirmed that the Gunners striker will spend rest of this season at the Hawthorns, while speaking to the Mexican media.
Later, it was officially confirmed by West Bromwich Albion Manager that Carlos Vela will play rest of this season with the Baggies.
Di Matteo said, “I'd like to officially welcome Carlos, who is an exciting signing for this club. Carlos is a new attacking option for us who can play both centrally and in the wide areas. He also has great technical ability and pace and we're hoping he
can make a big impact during the remainder of the season.”
West Bromwich Albion, who defeated Arsenal at Emirates by three goals to two earlier this season, play a 4-2-3-1 formation which suits the Mexican striker, as he can play as a central attacker on the wings. The 21-year-old striker is expected to build a
partnership with West Brom’s leading goal scorer http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Peter-Odemwingie-c29794.
Roberto Di Matteo praised his new signing and said, "There's no doubt that Carlos has the potential to become a great player and it will hopefully be a win-win situation, where we help him by giving him game time in the Premier League while he helps us achieve
our goal."
Carlos has not started for Arsenal in the Barclays Premier League this season, featuring only four times in the league as a substitute. However, he has been part of Arsenal’s first team in the Cup competitions.
The Mexican will not be allowed to play against Arsenal when the Gunners play at West Bromwich Albion on March 19th, 2011.
