Carlos Zambrano to pitch in Winter League for Caribes
Days after uncertainty loomed over Carlos Zambrano’s role with the Chicago Cubs, the player will now be heading to Venezuela to take part in the Winter League and play for the Caribes. The player has reportedly signed a contract and the news comes from Chicago
on Sunday, October 30. The player has been gaining some distrust amongst the Chicago faithful as he is trying to regain his form.
The offseason period will provide Zambrano an opportunity to grow and there is a lot of optimism in his decision. General Manager of the Caribes, Sam Moscatel informed the press recently on the development and he told the reporters that the Cubs’ pitcher
will be put in to action on November 6, against Magallanes.
"When he signed the contract, I told him, 'Carlos, it's a privilege for us that you are part of our team,'" Moscatel told the Chicago Tribune. "We hope he plays here for the next eight or nine years."
Theo Epstein has moved from Boston to Chicago to lead the Cubs as their new General Manager. With a change in management, Zambrano’s move could be called impressive as the team now decides whether to send the pitcher elsewhere with a trade or to pitch him
in 2012. He carries a hefty price of $18 million and he is under contract till 2012.
The hurler has been out of the pitching contest since August 12, when he was placed on the restricted list for 30 days after throwing dangerously against the Atlanta Braves’ Chipper Jones. He had a bad night as he was hit for five homers. The star now looks
to rise back from a disappointing season as he is scheduled to throw 30 pitches in simulated game on Tuesday.
"Our stadium is going to be sold out, for sure, in his first start here [on Nov. 11]," Moscatel said. "It's big news, in all the papers today. This is very exciting."
The former Boston Red Sox General Manager had a comment for the player as well.
"He's got talent," Epstein said of the right-hander. "Obviously, things haven't gone the way he would have liked or the organization would have liked the last few years."
The hurler was 9 – 7 in the season with an earning runs average of 4.82.
