Carlota Ciganda finishes tied for fifth in France
Spanish Carlota Ciganda shot an overall 270 in the Lacoste Ladies Open De France 2012 to tie for the fifth position along with Trish Johnson and French Anne-Lise Caudal.
Ciganda got off to a solid start in the LET (Ladies European Tour) tournament, held at Chantaco Golf Club, Aquitaine, France, as she posted a 68 in the opening round.
The Spanish star faced a competent field that featured stars like Stacey Keating of Australia, Italian Diana Luna, Azahara Munoz, Julie Greciet, Hannah Jun, Anja Monke, Maria Hjorth, Sarah Kemp, Lee-Anne Pace, Florentyna Parker, Bree Arthur and former world number one Lorena Ochoa.
Ciganda was particularly good in the second and third round as she cemented her position by shooting a 67 each. Despite posting good scores in the first three rounds, the Spaniard could not hold her ground against her nearest rivals who stormed past her in the final round.
Keating, who made a fast start as she registered a gigantic 62 in the opening round to grab an early lead, was seen romping to the first position in the fourth round, thanks to an overall 266.
Speaking to the media at the end of the round, Keating said she did not hope to display such a stunning performance, despite her winning the title at Tenerife Open de España Femenino.
Keating added that being disqualified from the Ricoh Women’s British Open 2012 was a big letdown for her—and that dampened her spirits.
Italian Luna was also hard to underrate as the star golfer enjoyed a lead in second and third round, rattling Keating, but lost the match by one stroke.
Ciganda shot a 68 in the fourth round that saw her card five birdies and three bogeys. She started the round with a bogey on the difficult par-3 first hole but shot birdies on the third and fifth, gaining some confidence.
On the back nine, the LET contender shot two birdies and steered clear of a bogey.
“I think the tournament is four days so you need to be patient and hit one shot at a time. There is one more day tomorrow and I need to stay very patient. I’m playing good and if the putts drop I think I can win the tournament so I’ll try my best,” the Spanish golfer said at the end of the third round.
