Carlota Cigandas’ fate to be decided in Dubai
The Spaniard Carlota Ciganda has her eyes set on the Grand Double, as she heads into the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters.
The tournament, which tees off on the 6th of December, will decide the fate of the 22-year-old Ciganda on the 9th of December, when the champion will be announced.
The Spaniard had a perfect rookie year. She landed in the 3rd position on the Turkish Airline Ladies Open, held in the National Golf Club, Belek Antalya, Turkey.
The 22-year-old from Pamplona, Spain, won her first title of the year, when she defeated Ursula Wikstrom, with a two shot advantage.
The win in Golf club Broekpolder Rotterdam, Netherlands, was a major breakthrough for Ciganda.
Ciganda won her second title of the year in Suzhou Taihu International Golf Club Suzhou, China.
She beat the German Caroline Masson with a score of 17-under par, as compared to the -10 score of the German. The title win in China, has put the Spaniard in the top honors of the Grand Double.
“It would be nice to wrap up the season with a grand double, but still there is everything to play for. I am really looking forward to playing in Dubai,” said Ciganda.
The Omega Dubai Ladies Masters has a great deal to offer to the players, as the prestigious tournament held in the Emirates Golf Course Dubai, United Arab Emirates, has the winning prize of Euro 75,000.
The competition in Dubai will be intense, as the top players will be going neck to neck to get their hands on the winning prize of Euro 75,000.
For some players, it is more than just the prize money. The honors, coming with a win in Dubai, could set up a great platform for the rookie players.
Ciganda is a player who is on the verge of being the rookie player of the year. The statistics show that she has the lowest stroke average with 70.5 as well as greens in regulation (79.7%) and total birdies (181).
If the Pamplona born manages to keep the form that won her the title in China, she will make history by being the first woman after Laura Davies, to achieve the honor of the Grand double.
The Omega Dubai Ladies Masters will be a battle ground for the ladies of the European Tour, because there is plenty at risk for the players.
“It will be interesting to see what new storylines emerge from the tournament which, like in previous years, is bolstered by the presence of LPGA stars,” said Mohamed Juma Buamaim, Vice Chairman and CEO of golf in Dubai.
He continued, “If we have again managed to assemble a top class field, it’s all down to the enthusiastic support of the players”.
