Carlton House, a threat to So You Think in Prince Of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot
Jockey Joseph O'Brien has termed Carlton House as the biggest threat to his runner, So You Think, in the 150th Anniversary of Prince of Wales´s Stakes (British Champions Series), taking place at Royal Ascot on Wednesday, June 20th.
Although Carlton House is not one of the consistent runners, an excellent success at Sandown has made him a dangerous competitor. Stepping up to the Group 1 grade would put Sir Michael Stoute’s trainee under tremendous pressure, nonetheless, O’Brein is not
reluctant to admit that Carlton House will be the one to beat in the 1m2f meeting.
"He seems to have come on from his run at the Curragh OK and we're hoping for a good run. Carlton House had a nice start to the year and might be the one to beat," said the young jockey.
On good to soft, eleven speedy runners will compete for a handsome cash prize worth £283,550. The big event is scheduled to begin at 15:45 (GMT).
So You Think has been rated favourite following his fine victory at Curragh last month. The New Zealander gave his best shot and comfortably clinched the first position by half a dozen lengths in the Group 1 Tattersalls Gold Cup.
On the other hand, Sri Putra is another interesting candidate. The 6-year-old was third in last year’s event and would be the one to watch out for. Although the odds are not in his favour, one cannot afford to take him lightly.
Prior to his sixth place at Capannelle, the bay horse sealed a close victory at Kempton, beating Saamidd by a nose in the Get Your Bet On At Blue Square Paradise Stakes.
Despite the fact that Sri Putra was terrible in his last appearance, Roger Varian is confidence about his charge’s chances and hoped to bag some prize-money today.
"Sri Putra often saves his best for the championship races because the track, ground and fast pace seem to suit him." He certainly seems back to his best following his disappointing run in Italy and hopefully he can get in the money," the handler told www.varianstable.com.
