Carlton House set to prevail in the Betfair Brigadier Gerard Stakes at Sandown
Sir Michael Stoute’s charge, Carlton House, is on his way to land more victories and make his record shine as he is scheduled to compete in the Betfair Brigadier Gerard Stakes at Sandown, which is due to take place on 31st May,
2012.
Owned by Her Majesty the Queen, the four-year-old will attempt to notch a royal victory in this event.
The bay colt has an impressive record as he has two victories, a finish as a runner-up and a third place finish in five starts. He finished fourth in the Group 1 Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby at Curragh on 26th June, 2011, which
was his closing race of the previous season.
Now, Carlton is returning to the track after a long lay-off, and he is aiming to make a name for himself in a grand fashion.
The son of Street Cry, out of mare Talented, landed his last victory in the Group 2 Totesport Dante Stakes at York on 12th May, 2011, where jockey Ryan Moore led him to the victory over the A.P. O’Brien trained, Seville, by
1 ½ lengths.
Dubai World Cup winner, Monterosso, was scheduled to return to the track in this race, but it appears that he has been scratched.
Mahmood Al Zarooni stated that nothing has been decided as to where the runner will run next.
"We changed the plan. I think we'll all sit down with the boss (Sheikh Mohammed) and decide where we go with him.
"He's in the Coronation Cup at Epsom and he could run there, but his options are open. His Highness has not decided where he wants to run him yet.
"As he's won the biggest race of them all we want to be careful with him."
Instead of him, owners Godolphin will rely on Hunter's Light, who previously achieved a victory in the Blue Square Churchill Stakes at Lingfield on 12th
November, 2011, where William Buick led him to a narrow victory of a short-head over, Circumvent.
Trainer Hughie Morrison’s charge Sagramor will compete in this race along with I'm A Dreamer, who is trained by David Simcock.
