Do you think Essendon gave the Blues a reality check today - or do they still think they have the 'premiership in the bag' ?

Power fan myself but i think people are being a bit harsh towards the Carlton footy club.

The people who are saying how they act like they've won the premiership each time they win a game obviously haven't recognised the criticism that they have copped over the las 5-6 years of losing constantly.

If I was part of a team that had won about 7-8 games in 5 seasons of footy, i'd be excited to be closing in on the top 8.

In answer to the question, they haven't really beaten a top 8 side comprehensively, much like the cross-town rivals the crows. They have won 6 games but i dont think theyre a top 8 side yet. Give them this year and next and i think that they have a good group of players that will mature enough to put up a fight in a couple of years time.

They're heading in the right direction in comparison to their last 6 seasons.

Definitely a reality check. They feel like they've won a premiership every time they win a game because after being wooden spooners or near enough for years they've probably forgotten what it feels like to win. But, hey, they beat the Pies twice this year so that should keep their heads sufficiently swelled until next year, hopefully we won't have to hear from them again until then (and then hopefully the Pies will ***** slap them back to the bottom of the ladder where they belong).

I think we were in the 8 for about 5 days!   Oh well.   It was good while it lasted!

It made me laugh to see carlton lose but people are too critical of everything. Carlton will bounce back. Maybe the premi is a few years off but c'mon. It was one lose! I mean, we shouldnt send em off to the gallows just yet.

The bomber are a pretty good/improving side.

I wouldn't of thought any blues supporter thought they were going to win the flag.  Like all young sides they will be up and down, that's just the way it goes in Aussie Rules,  for what reason we don't know other wise it wouldn't happen, but teams like Carlton, essendon and even collingwood will loose when they are expected to in and win when they are expected to loose. it happened again on the weekend,  the tigers beat port, they were not rated too big a chance of winning, surprised me, that's for sure.

I think the Bombers gave the Blues a well needed reality check. As Brett Ratten said, the Blues couldn't handle all the hype about being in the top eight. They should have toned it down a bit. There is still a possibilty that they will play finals, but they should be focusing on gaining some experience first.

PS: Why do you always bring Collingwood up king_james?

Carlton lost because they were feeling too cocky and thinking a team worse than them on the ladder means an easy win, Many comebacks are possible and even the worse teams can do best against the top.

They certainly did. it doesnt matter where you opposition sits on the ladder you have to go out and play good footy. They didnt do that today. I dont think they will make the 8 this year but are a much improved team from previous years, give them another year and youll see them in the 8.

Yeah, I know alot seemed cocky after a collingwood defeat (Pies should feel honoured everyone rates their team on how they played against em...)

But I think most the excit-asm was due to cracking the 8 after 7years of not..

Today, well, for me it looked like Bombers were the better team..
