Carly Booth hopes to move up the leaderboard in the coming rounds
For the Scottish player Carly Booth, the first round of the ISPS Handa Ladies British Masters was more of a disappointment. She ended up in the 28th place with a score of 71.
Booth was one of the favourites of both the fans and experts, who hoped that she would finish the tournament in the top-ten. Her record for 2012 indicated that she was in great form and will be a major performer in this event.
She started the first round with a par on the first hole. This uninspiring start was forgotten when she scored a birdie on the second hole. However, the celebrations were short lived as Booth came to play the next holes.
On the third hole, she sank a bogey and neutralized her advantage of the second hole. The next hole was an equal disappointment, as she again scored a bogey on the fourth hole. The next holes of the front nine went uneventfully.
At this point, Booth was one stroke above the course par and this appeared to be no big deal. She had nine holes ahead of her and a player of her calibre can easily score birdies and eagles on these holes. She did live up to this expectation but it did not
do anything fruitful for her final score.
She started the back nine with a birdie on the 10th hole. This looked promising and the fans waited for another one at the coming holes.
The next three holes, 11, 12th and 13th were played on par. On the 14th hole, Booth surprised everyone with a birdie.
However, this was her final accomplishment of the day. The remaining holes went uneventfully and the round ended with a score of 71.
Carly Booth is a rising player who has seen many ups and downs in her career. After struggling through the first two years, she played an average game in all her events and occasionally posted a top-ten finish.
If Booth manages to improve her performance in the coming rounds, she stands a very good chance of moving up the rankings.
Already she is considered an upcoming player and a good finish at the Ladies British Masters will strengthen this opinion.
