Carly Booth romps to victory at Deutsche Bank Ladies Swiss Open 2012
Scottish Carly Booth has proved that she is not easily rattled, as she romped to her second LET (Ladies European Tour) triumph at the Deutsche Bank Ladies Swiss Open 2012, after shooting an eagle in the playoff.
Booth got off to a shaky start in the opening round of the Swiss Open, played at Golf Gerre Losone, Switzerland, but made an ace on the 11th hole.
She posted an overall 70 in the first round to stand tied for the 22nd position on the leaderboard.
The young star ramped up pressure on her rivals after the second round, as she made comfortable strokes. She was standing at the 5th spot at the end of the third round, but reversed the situation after she fired a 68 in the final round.
The match stretched into a three-way playoff, which the Scottish won by posting an eagle on the fourth extra hole.
It was Booth’s second LET victory — something analysts said will help the rising star gain confidence.
The Scottish prodigy recorded her first Tour victory at the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open 2012, held at Archerfield Links in East Lothian.
Golf commentators said that Booth has shown her resilience in Switzerland, and she is likely to bag more victories in the near future. They pointed out that the Scott played in a very tough field, but did not waver for a moment.
Speaking to the media at the end of tournament, Booth said that she is very happy after hoisting her second LET title.
She said that she did not have words to express her feelings, but would like to thank her fans and the Swiss spectators, who gave her the much-needed support.
Mentioning the final moments in the playoff, the 19-year-old golfer said that her nerve started to trouble her when she played the first extra hole along with Germans Anja Monke and Caroline Masson.
“It was tough. We birdied three out of three and I was thinking, someone’s going to have to eagle to win this. I hit a perfect drive every time and then 5-iron onto the green to about 10 foot and just holed it so it was perfect,” Booth said.
She added that she focused on playing a natural game, which helped her in the end. “I was just trying to hit a positive putt”.
