Carly Booth shares the first-round lead in Germany
Carly Booth, who recently recorded her first LET (Ladies European Tour) triumph at the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open 2012, posted a 67 in the ongoing Unicredit Ladies German Open to share the
first-round lead with three other contenders.
The prestigious tournament is being played at Golfpark Gut Hausern, Germany, with thirteen German contenders.
Booth, a rising star from Scotland, is playing among some of the most prominent LET stars. However, the young prodigy appeared to have held her nerve in the opening round, taking full advantage of the favourable
weather conditions.
The field of the tournament is pretty strong, as it is featuring competent players like the defending champion Diana Luna, Laura Davies, who won the 2010 edition of the German Open, Florentyna Parker, Aussies
Lindsey Wright and Karen Lunn.
Despite the strong field, Booth displayed a better-than-expected performance. She kicked off the round in an impressive style, as she parred the first two holes. Then on the 3rd, she reeled off her
first birdie.
The Scottish superstar seemed to falter on the 4th hole, as she misjudged the hole and recorded a bogey.
Analysts said that the opening round went well, as the weather did not play havoc to the course. With comfortable winds whipping through the course, played found it easy to adjust to the conditions.
On the back nine, Booth looked even more fired up. She drained 5 birdies, ramping up pressure on her nearest rivals.
Speaking to the media at the end of the opening round, the Scottish teen said that she just focused on her putts, as this was what helped her avoid making too many careless strokes. She admitted that her game
was not that good on the front nine, but she offset the impact on the back nine after making five birdies.
“It was just trying to be patient. It was a slow front nine: was only level par through nine but then birdied 10 and 11 and nearly holed my shot on 13 and tapped in for birdie. I parred 14, 15 and 16 and then
birdie, birdie to finish,” Booth said.
Other players sharing the lead with golfing sensation include Caroline Westrup, Stefanie Michl and Carin Koch.
