Carmelo Anthony and Deron Williams standout as New York Knicks beat New Jersey Nets 88-82: NBA Recap
The countdown to a shortened NBA season is now in its last phases and the performance, but after the two warm up games, the New York Knicks and New Jersey Nets played, one thing is for sure that both teams need to cover a lot of
ground.
Although the Knicks won this game 88-82, both sides looked rusty and out of practice on the night. The Nets were completely out of sorts and shot only 50 percent from the free throw line, 15 percent from downtown, which formed
part of 40 percent effort from the floor.
The Knicks were even worse. They shot only 33.7 percent from the field, including 26.7 from the three point range. Same was the case with turnover with the Knicks committing 21 as compared to 18 by the Nets.
However, in the end, the 11 blocked shots as compared to 3 by the Nets made the difference. Both teams fought the first half solidly and were nip and tuck at 47 all by the end. The third frame was almost the same as neither managed
to dominate the game completely, however the Knicks held a slight edge by the end, 65-64. They then started the deciding frame with a 6-2 spurt to get in the driving seat, however the Nets responded with an 11-2 run, capped by Lopez’s jumper, to make it 75
all.
What followed was another 11-2 spurt, but this time from the Knicks, which made it 86-77. Nets only had two minutes to slash the lead but they failed to do so and fell short by 6 points in the end.
Veteran forward, Carmelo Anthony led from the front and marshalled the Knicks with 21 points and 8 rebounds. Amar’e Stoudemire also had a good outing and pounded 15 points while Toney Douglas drained 13 points and forced 8 rebounds
as well.
Deron Williams paced the Nets with 21 points, 4 rebounds and 7 assists while Brook Lopez and Damion James added 15 and 13 respectively along with 18 rebounds between them.
Nets starting guard Anthony Morrow was the biggest disappointment of the night as he missed all his shots. However, he was not too worried with his performance and said that he and his team would give out a much improved performance
in their season opener this Sunday.
"We know it'll be a lot different Sunday against the Celtics. They're preparing for us, we're preparing for them. We have the first NBA game of the season and we're excited about that. We're just ready to go out there and get this
thing rolling."
