Carmelo Anthony determined to be successful with the New York Knicks – NBA Update
NBA super star Carmelo Anthony has expressed his resolve to be successful with the New York Knicks. Carmelo moved to New York only mid way through last season and helped the side reach the playoffs after a seven year long absence.
Many people were not happy with Melo’s arrival though.
Some New York fans believed that the franchise had to part with one too many talented players in order to pry the super star out of Denver Nuggets’ clutches. The price for Anthony, and fellow former Nuggets man Chauncey Billups,
did seem high, but since his arrival Anthony has shone brighter than anyone else at the Madison Square Garden.
While talking to reporters recently, Anthony said he was sure things could only get better for him and the Knicks.
"No doubt," said Anthony in an interview with the NY DailyNews. The player said he was aware that the Knicks went 12-16 following his arrival and pointed to his past record with the Denver Nuggets as proof of his pedigree. "We
won't have a losing record. I haven't had a losing record in eight years."
Anthony was brought into the NBA by the Denver Nuggets, who drafted him 3rd overall in 2003. Since becoming an NBA player, Carmelo has impressed year after year on an individual basis but team success has eluded him.
"It's funny, people seem to forget that I have won," Anthony said Thursday at a photo shoot in SoHo. He was, of course, referring to the fact that the forward already had an Olympic gold medal to his name, as well as a college
championship with Syracuse.
If he gets an NBA World Championship now with the Knicks, Melo will become part of a very exclusive group.
"I can count on one hand and one finger the guys that have won a college championship, a gold medal and NBA title. I understand the significance of that but until I actually win a championship I'm not in that group."
That group includes the likes of Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson, who both won in college, won with the USA Olympic Dream Team, and won a combined 11 NBA World Championships.
For now Carmelo is hoping for just the one NBA World Championship and he believes the return of teammate Amar’e Stoudemire to the court can only help him in his quest.
"It's been a long time," Anthony said. "That was my first time seeing him since I've been working out and since he had the back problem. But to see him on the court playing the way he did got me excited. He looked good."
With both of them fit and firing, the Knicks could actually have a realistic shot at the title next season, whenever it begins.
