Carmelo Anthony drops 33 as New York Knicks beat New Jersey Nets 104 – 95 – NBA Recap
The New York Knicks came away with a 104 – 95 win here Wednesday with a strong display against the New Jersey Nets. Playing at the Prudential Center, the Knicks made a powerful start to the game and sustained their advantage to silence the crowd and garner
an important victory.
Carmelo Anthony was the spearhead of New York’s attack. The forward collected game high 33 points, had 4 assists and grabbed 7 rebounds. The super star was pleased to be back in form and explained after the game that he was just having fun on the court now.
"I don't think I've felt like this in a while. Just feeling good about myself, feeling good about my body, where I'm at, physically, where I'm at. Mentally, everything is just clear. I have a lot of clarity right now. Everything is just fun."
Tyson Chandler also stepped up for the Knicks, registering a double-double with 18 points and 10 boards. Mike Bibby had 8 points and 8 assists while J.R. Smith came off the bench for 15 points.
Gerald Wallace led the Nets with 21 points and 5 rebounds while Kris Humphries hauled down 15 rebounds and had 8 points.
Sundiata Gaines stated in place of the injured Deron Williams and did not disappoint, racking up 18 points, 6 assists and 6 rebounds.
The Knicks were fast coming out of the blocks, and grabbed a foothold in the first quarter with a 9 – 4 run from the jump. A 14 – 2 run put them in complete control, up at 29 – 11, and the Nets were unable to mount a comeback, ending the period trailing
at 38 – 22.
The second segment was much more even. Both sides played well but New York were able to hold the Nets off. At the end of the first half, the status quo was very much intact, the Knicks up by 64 – 47.
New Jersey came out firing after the break but New York’s advantage still looked too steep. Nevertheless, the home side was able to cut down the deficit into single digits heading into the final quarter behind at 78 – 71.
The final push never came from the Nets in the last 12 minutes. In fact, New York were able to push their advantage into double digits again and ended the game with a comfortable score line of 104 – 95.
