The Knicks small forward praises the fight shown by his team; Rues missed opportunities.....
The New York Knicks took on the Los Angeles Lakers at their home on Tuesday night, the second time this season when the two teams met. In their last Carmelo Anthony and the Knicks dominated the Lakers, and pulled away late to make
it 1-0 in the two game season series. And on Tuesday, when Carmelo Anthony sank two three pointers right at the start of the third quarter to fuel a 15-5 run which took them to 61-53, it seemed that the Knicks would do it again.
The Lakers, boosted by the presence of Steve Nash, had other ideas though.
Nash and Kobe rallied back for the Lakers and paced a 17-9 stretch which meant just a one point deficit for the Lakers entering into the final quarter. The duo had 15 points in that stretch, and could have been better for the Lakers
had Kobe Bryant not missed from the free throw line at the end of the quarter. The Black Mamba however made up for that in the last quarter, and his deuce with 7:38 remaining put the Lakers ahead for good.
That was followed by Steve Nash time.
The point guard, in his second game back after a 24 game layoff due to a fractured fibula in the left leg, scored or created 12 of the last 15 Lakers’ points, and his team raced to their fifth consecutive win.
Carmelo, troubled by foul problem, however put up a valiant fight. He scored 6 of the Knicks’ 16 last quarter points and finished with a joint game-high 34 points. The forward was proud of the shows his team put on though;
"There were some plays that we thought should have went our way down the stretch, but for the most part, we fought. I'll take this effort any night. If we continue to play with this effort, we'll win a lot of games."
"They just were a little bit more aggressive," Anthony, who is second in the league in terms of scoring, added. "Kobe got it going, and Steve Nash hit some big shots down the stretch. When you have a guy like Nash doing that, it's
kind of tough.”
