Carmelo Anthony in New York Knicks – How does the move fare for Amare’ Stoudemire: NBA Feature
This February, Denver Nugget’s Carmelo Anthony was finally traded to New York Knicks in exchange of Danilo Gallinari, Raymond Felton and Wilson Chandler. The news of Anthony and Denver’s beloved Chauncey Billups moving to New York
left the Denver’s camp in tatters.
The New Yorkers were happy. But no one in New York was more ecstatic than Amar’e Stoudemire as he had been trying for long to get Anthony in his team. Stoudemire himself is an aggressive player and with Anthony in the team, Stoudemire
believed their duo will do wonders as both are versatile and difficult to guard. We all know it did not quite work out as Stoudemire had thought and New York made an early exit in the first round of playoff last season.
It would be totally unfair to blame Anthony for this, as he did not get much time to settle and bond with his team mates but in this season, Carmelo has to do well and adjust quickly to the new conditions. Not for himself, but
for Stoudemire as it was Stoudemire who put his neck on the line for Anthony. If Anthony fails in delivering, Stoudemire will have to face some serious criticism.
New York Struggled last season, ending up as the sixth seed which they could have also done without Anthony in the team. They have paid a handsome price for Anthony and I am sure Anthony will be aware of the fact. He will have
to play out of his skin to do justice with his new team
Stoudemire’s move to acquire Anthony is a long term move. He must have given it a good long thought or did he not? These are the sorts of questions, critics will be bombarding on Anthony before the season starts.
Stoudemire has been a loyal servant to his team and over the years has proved to be the back bone of New York Knicks. He is responsible for carrying this team that was once dead this far and he did this solely on his own. All the
fame and the status he has in NBA is because of his commitment to the game. All the games he has won for his team were usually because of his individual performance but is he visionary too? Is he good with making changes in the team? Only time will tell.
That was totally Stoudemire’s decision to bring Anthony to New York Knicks but another question that arises here is did he explore other options before taking in Anthony. I mean there are other players in NBA that maybe better
than Anthony so why Anthony?
Maybe he wanted a combination like “big three” of Miami heat. What I have been able to grab so far about this trade is that Stoudemire is an optimist and he wants his team to be at the top along with Chicago Bulls, Miami Heat or
Los Angeles Lakers. With Anthony’s inclusion in the team, burden of New York Knicks success is not only on Stoudemire’s shoulders anymore. Anthony needs to come forward and take some responsibility of the team.
I hope his master move pays Stoudemire the dividends instead of becoming the cause for his defamation later. No player of Stoudemire’s class likes to have a stigma attached to his name.
