Carmelo Anthony is in Chicago but focus is still with the Denver Nuggets
Carmelo Anthony is in Chicago on Monday 8 November, but the superstar forward, who expressed his interest in joining the Chicago Bulls, is still with the team that drafted him seven years
ago, the Denver Nuggets.
Anthony has been surrounded by a lot of trade speculation since the off-season, and Chicago was said to be one of Anthony top three choices, along with the New York Knicks and the New Jersey
Nets.
However, the 26-year-old forward downplayed all the hype prior to their game against the Bulls, and said that he is not thinking about the rumours and that his focus is on their present campaign.
“Maybe if I was a free agent, I would let my mind wander, but I can't do that right now,” Anthony said after their morning’s shoot-around. “I got to focus on being a Nugget and playing Nuggets
basketball. It wouldn't be right if I let my mind wander and think about if I was here in Chicago.”
The 2008 Beijing Olympics gold medallist however expressed his admiration with how the Bulls are playing with their explosive style, spearheaded by their young guns like Derrick Rose and
emerging centre Joakim Noah, plus the addition of veteran power-forward Carlos Boozer.
“I don't want to say this in the wrong way and then you all take it, but anybody would love to play with a guy like Derrick Rose,” said Anthony, who also added the young superstar point guard
has improved his game every year.
“You got a young big man in Joakim Noah. You got Carlos Boozer, right now Boozer's hurt, but they've got a good team right now,” he added.
Anthony also admitted that the Bulls are a unique team because of what Michael Jordan brought to the city, and he also tagged Chicago as a top-three basketball city.
Although, the consensus is he’ll definitely be in a new team as early as February, before the trade deadline, Anthony is not counting out the possibility of staying with the Nuggets, who
are having a great start this season with a 4-2 record.
“Sure, why not? I don't see why not,” Anthony said when asked about the possibility of staying in Denver. “We're winning, we're winning basketball games and I'm happy, and everybody else
on the team is.”
