Carmelo Anthony leads the Denver Nuggets to a 121-107 win over the Indiana Pacers
Carmelo Anthony scored 36 points and hit a career-high six 3-pointers as the Denver Nuggets earned a hard-fought 121-107 win over the Indiana Pacers on Sunday night at Pepsi Center. Anthony was unstoppable in the third quarter.
He scored 23 points and hit all six of his 3-pointers in the frame to break the game. The dynamic small forward is averaging 27 points over his last three games.
Anthony said about his long range shooting after the game, "They just kept leaving me open, and the three-ball was falling.”
Al Harrington scored 16 for Denver and Nene also came off the bench to score 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Nuggets, who have won five of their last seven games of the season 2010-11.
Tyler Hansbrough continued his excellent run of form and scored a team-high 27 points and 10 rebounds for the Pacers. In the previous game, he led the Pacers with a career-high 27 points and 10 rebounds. Indiana's Paul George
had a career-high 17 points off the bench while Roy Hibbert registered 12 points for the Pacers, who lost their fifth straight game.
The Pacers sprinted to a 5-point lead early in the first quarter but then took their foot off the gas. This allowed the Nuggets enough breathing space to get into their groove. The Pacers however had a better quarter and they took
a 30-27 lead into the second. The Nuggets’ offensive battery finally got going in the second. Nene initiated the spark with some breathtaking dunks and the rest followed as the Bronchos took a 59-51 lead into the locker room. The Nuggets got nine points apiece
from Nene and Ty Lawson in the second.
Nuggets continued to press on after the break and led by 78-67 midway through the third. They then rattled off a 15-3 run over the next two minutes to put way the game for good. After the Pacers scored on their next possession,
Anthony nailed a 3-pointer that made it 93-72 with 1:03 remaining. The Pacers however scored the next six points, taking a 93-78 lead into the final stanza.
The Pacers never had the sniff in the fourth. The Nuggets led by as many as 25 at one points and eventually cruised to a win. Carmelo Anthony said after the game.
"This is a big road trip for us," "We need to take the confidence and the momentum that we have here on our home court and really just lock in and focus in on winning basketball games on the road,"
