Carmelo Anthony recalls Spurs-Nuggets matchups: NBA News
New York Knicks exhilarating small forward Carmelo Anthony still remembers thrilling battles with the San Antonio Spurs when he used to represent Denver Nuggets.
After fielding the questions related at press conference held by the him and MISSION Athletecare for the promotion of their new product “Power Grip” that is a “liquid chalk” made to remove sweat from the hands that’ll allow the basketball players to grip
the ball more firmly, the All-Star took on the questions related to his time with the Nuggets and playing against San Antonio in awe-inspiring matchups.
Recalling those games, Anthony said to Project Spurs, "At the end of the day, the Spurs they are an older team,"
"They are a very experienced team who been through a lot since I been in this league. I been able to face them in the playoffs four times every season. They always been a tough, professional organization. I'm pretty sure they will do what they have to do
to keep that going over there."
Anthony called the Spurs tough because in the end it’s San Antonio that walks away with the victory quite often in the Spurs-Nuggets matchups, but those victories were not easy to come by, as both teams had to go through lot of intense moments and physical
play. These powerful moments were more often witnessed during the playoffs, where each team tried to dominate other.
After battling it out on four occasions with the Spurs in the playoffs, Anthony is well aware what San Antonio are all about. When Anthony was inquired about his favourite moments in those classic battles his reply was this, "Times where me and Bruce Bowen
had battles out there. Times where me and Ginobili had battles out there. It's always been some battles between Denver and San Antonio. "I miss those days."
Despite of those intense match ups, when Anthony was asked, who he thinks were the top defensive teams in the National Basketball Association, his answer was Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers.
Anthony was right because the Spurs fans also miss those days when San Antonio used to play a solid defence. However, still no one can underestimate the Spurs capabilities because a fragile defence that can be resolve by bringing a solid defender or by rotating
the players. As, Anthony said earlier it’s a professional organization and they knew what they have to do in order to keep the wheels moving.
Apart from missing the old days, Anthony also expressed his grief over the ongoing lockout because for a basketball player staying away from the action for a long period is frustrating more than anything. Therefore, Anthony is eagerly waiting for the moment
when an accord will be reached between the players union and the franchise owners.
