Carmelo Anthony scores 27 on debut as New York Knicks pull off a 114-108 win over Milwaukee Bucks
Carmelo Anthony scored a game-high 27 points on his debut for New York Knicks and propelled them to a magnificent 114-108 victory over Milwaukee Bucks at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night. Chauncey Billups who paired with
Anthony on Tuesday’s blockbuster trade ended with 21 points and eight assists as Knicks opened the second half of the season on a high note.
The highlight of the night was Carmelo Anthony making his first appearance as Knick while his every move was cheered by the crowd immensely. He gathered 27 points and 10 rebounds leading his team for a third straight win.
"I'm glad I got this game out of my system. These last two days have been crazy for me. I got no sleep. Just to get this 'W' tonight, that meant the world to me. That was a h**l of a moment for the fans to react the way they did,
to give me that ovation that they did." Carmelo said.
The game was filled with sheer excitement and immense anticipation as the star of the night got incredible support from the spectators.
The home team managed to acquire a comprehensive lead 33-24 in the first quarter escalating a belligerent play for the opposition. Knicks’s two offensive powers Amare’ Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony took the possession of the ball
leaving few options for the visiting team to gain any sort of momentum.
However, Brandon Jennings and Keyon Dooling lifted the momentum for Bucks in the second quarter and retaliated stoutly combining five 3-pointer shot to cut down the deficit 59-57 as the game progressed into the first half.
Milwaukee grabbed 3 points advantage in the first minute of the third period with Delfino’s addition of another 3-pointer following a hook shot by Bogut. Though, the home team snatched the lead from Bucks right away laying a sturdy
defense and restricting them to score in the next four minutes. The third quarter ended with 5 points advantage for the New York Knicks.
The visiting team managed to reduce the deficit to 93-91 with 5:08 left in the play putting the game into an intense situation. Amare Stoudemire was fouled out in the final quarter however Anthony kept the home team ahead. He made
two clutch free throws followed by a key dunk to provide six points edge with 11.4 seconds left as the crowd chanted “Melo, Melo”. The final free throw availed by Billups resulted in an outstanding 114-108 victory.
New York Knicks looked a very strong line-up with the addition of the superstar Carmelo Anthony as expected. Wednesday night’s victory matched the win total of 29 victories from the last season for Knicks as they are determined
to move a long way this season. Too many defeats in the first half put them a little behind however the second half of the season will be much different as Stoudemire will get a lot of support from Anthony and Billups. The game is still wide open and it is
going to be a tough challenge for any team to oppose Knicks with two best offensive players.
