Carmelo Anthony seeks a return for Jeremy Lin to the New York Knicks – NBA Update
Carmelo Anthony wishes to see Jeremy Lin be a New York Knick next season. However it still remains to be seen whether the Knicks management will choose to match the near $25 million offer made by the Houston Rockets.
The Knicks have till Tuesday to match the offer sheet thrown their way by Houston and if they fail to comply with the semantics of the three year deal, they would have to say goodbye to the Linsanity phenomenon that took over the
Big Apple midway through the last season.
“I hope we get it done, man, I would love to see him back, honestly. I would definitely love to see him back. But knowing the business of basketball, it’s a tough situation, kind of for both of our sides. With Jeremy, I know he
definitely wants to be back in New York and Dolan definitely wants him back. So it’s just a matter of figuring it out.”
At the moment, Anthony is busy with team USA, gearing up for the Olympics by playing a series of friendly fixtures before the start of the games. However Melo still has some part of his attention focused on what is going on back
home.
These recent comments are being speculated as an effort to cancel out his earlier statement in which he deemed the Houston’s offer ridiculous. Anthony still remains adamant on his point of view and believes the Rockets offer is
the main reason for the Knicks having trouble to bring back their sensational point guard from last season.
According to Anthony, the Rockets offer particularly for the third year which would see Lin earn around $14.89-million has left the Big Apple franchise in loads of trouble. He believes that had it been not for the unreal offer,
Knicks would not have been so worries about the financial conditions.
If the Knicks owner James Dolan agrees to match up the offer from Houston, it would put them in a very unstable situation, monetarily. They already have Amare’ Stoudemire, Tyson Chandler and Anthony himself on lucrative contracts
and by paying the heft price for Lin, the Knicks would be looking to pay around $70 million in salaries, a situation they seem reluctant to pursue at the moment.
As far as the rumours involving Anthony not liking Lin are concerned. He went to completely reject the notion and considered the relationship between the two of them to be very good.
“I don’t know,” Anthony said. “I can’t worry about that. Ask Lin. He’ll tell you what a good relationship we have.”
