Carmelo Anthony thinks New York Knicks have no rivalry with Brooklyn Nets, not yet anyway – NBA Update
The New York Knicks will start the next season by facing off against their new neighbours Brooklyn Nets.
So will this be the start of a new rivalry between these teams as both sides battle to become the top team in the Big Apple. Will the Brooklyn versus Manhattan chapters highlight the NBA?
Well, Carmelo Anthony does not believe it to be the case.
Since coming from a successful Olympic campaign, the Knicks star has taken little off time and recently held a basketball camp for the youth at the St. John’s University. Speaking to the media, Anthony took time to contemplate
on his ambitions for next season and when asked about the equation between the Knicks and the Nets, he said;
“There’s no rivalry between us and Brooklyn right now,” Anthony said. “It starts on that first game. We’ll see what happens with that first game. But as of right now, we are focused on ourselves. We are not really focused on nobody
else.”
There is every chance that a new NBA rivalry can start between the two teams, but at the moment, the teams have bigger things to worry about and those things centre around the lack of success coming their way during the last decade
or so.
The Knicks were formidable in the 90’s but that is all there is to it. They were knocked out in the first round of the playoffs in the last two seasons and failed to even make it to the post season in seven seasons before that.
On the other hand, the Nets have not won a single Championship since coming to the NBA. They went close twice at the turn of the century but from there on it has been a downhill ride.
The teams have been relentlessly trying to revamp their roster in the last year or so and seem ready to move to the next chapter in their respective franchise histories. There is a definite chance of rivalry being established but
the more important thing is that these two teams go on and finish next season strongly.
