Carmelo Anthony wants to carry his Olympic touch for the New York Knicks – NBA Update
Carmelo Anthony proved that he can be the go-to guy at the London Olympics and the 28 year old now hopes to continue his exploits for the New York Knicks in the coming NBA season.
Coming off the bench during the Olympics, Anthony played a major role in team USA’s run to winning the gold medal and put up some brilliant performances, which included a record breaking 37 point outing against Nigeria – the second
highest individual score in the history of the games.
Since winning the gold medal, Anthony has taken only a little time off and believes that he is fully fit for the coming season.
Speaking to the media during his two-day youth camp held at the St. John's University, the Knicks star seemed all charged up for the next season, which many analysts believe can be a make or break scenario for him.
"I'm excited just to get this thing going, especially coming off the run I just had, the run we had with Team USA, how much fun we had, to put a team together and still be able to accomplish something with everybody on that team
-- to bring that mentality here back to the New York Knicks, I'm excited about that.”
On the question of team chemistry, the player added;
"We've got guys on our team, veteran guys that you don't have to teach the game to. They already know the game. So it's just a matter of all of us putting it all together and making this run."
Anthony has been criticized of being selfish throughout his career and this is more like the kind of approach which is needed for him to lead the Knicks into being strong contenders for the NBA Throne.
There is no doubt that Anthony is as talented as many other NBA stars but it has always been a matter of priorities and he has now got to put the team before himself.
The Olympics have taught him much about being a team-player and not even the idea of having a rivalry with the Brooklyn Nets seems to be getting Anthony off his focus.
"There's no rivalry between us and Brooklyn right now, it starts on that first game. We'll see what happens with that first game. But as of right now, we are focused on ourselves. We are not really focused on nobody else." – Anthony
