Carmelo Anthony would love to play alongside Chris Paul – NBA Update
New York Knicks super star Carmelo Anthony is all for Chris Paul and wants to see the vaunted playmaker alongside him. Anthony was warm to the suggestion of a Chris Paul switch to New York and said he would welcome him with open
arms.
C3P is currently with the New Orleans Hornets, the team with which he started his NBA career. However, Paul is rumoured to be unhappy with the Hornets because the team is not competitive enough and he could therefore jump ship.
"If it works out and he comes here and they allow him to come here, you'll see a smile from ear to ear," Anthony said, according to the New York Post. "It's not just me. It's everybody [in New York]. If he decides to leave New
Orleans and goes somewhere else, they'll be feeling the same way I'm feeling."
The Knicks are believed to be an interested party as they look to follow the Miami Heat’s lead in building a team full of super stars. The Heat acquired LeBron James and Chris Bosh last season, adding them to a roster that already
included former NBA Finals MVP Dwyane Wade to form a new Big Three.
The Knicks are working on a similar model. They signed explosive power forward Amar’e Stoudemire last summer and added more star power to the roster when Anthony came over from the Denver Nuggets in mid-season. They still look
like one guy short after a first round playoffs exit at the hands of the Boston Celtics.
The idea that Paul could be that last piece of the puzzle excites Anthony, who has played with the Hornets live wire this summer in various exhibition games and has been hugely impressed.
"It's fun," Anthony said, according to the Post. "He's such a competitor, even in games we play now. He wants the games to be NBA games -- the intensity level. He wants everybody to go out and compete. It's something I've really
enjoyed."
Paul has been in New York a lot this off season and is a good friend of Melo’s. With Chris’ contract up next summer, he is set to become one of the most coveted free agents around and many believe the race to sign him has begun
already.
Anthony though dismissed suggestions that Paul’s prolonged presence in New York and his friendship with the Knicks forward had something to do with next year’s free agency.
"He spent a lot of time here last year, too, but people weren't hearing about it because there was a lot of [other stuff] going on," Anthony said. "But we don't talk about [the Knicks].”
