New Zealand’s impressive player Carmen Yuen, who is representing Auckland II, stole the limelight by playing to her maximum potential and overpowered Jo Seddon of Canterbury in Women’s Singles showdown at the New Zealand Division 2 Slazenger Cup 2012 in
Hamilton, on Saturday, August 11.
It was an interesting contest that took three physically demanding games from both shuttlers and Carmen emerged as the winner as she played smart badminton in the final set.
The in-form Carmen took the opening game in a one-sided manner and many thought that she would finish the match in straight sets but Seddon showed her brilliance and took the second set to stretch her rival to the third game.
However, in the deciding game, Carmen again proved her mettle by employing her lofty skills and ended up the contest in rubber games.
On the other hand, Seddon tried to use all of her skills on court to stop the aggression of her rival but she could not maintain her speed in the deciding game and lost the battle with a reasonable margin.
The opening game was absolutely one-sided when Carmen showed a wonderful speed and took an easy lead until the end of opening half.
After the mid-game interval, Carmen continued her staggering performance without showing any respect to her rival and managed to bag the game by putting up the figure of 21-12 on score board.
The following game as altogether different from the opening set as it was Seddon who remained on driving seat this time.
In the meanwhile, Carmen failed to prove her worth in this set and remained struggling until the break.
After the mid-game interval, Carmen tried to narrow the deficit but failed to command the rallies and lost the set with a decent margin of 17-21.
In the deciding set, Carmen got her flow and played attacking badminton which helped her to take a good advantage until the 60-second break.
After the interval, Carmen stretched her lead by keeping the pace high and took the deciding set with a wonderful 21-12 score on the board.
The in-form Carmen stamped her mark over Seddon in hard-fought three games with a reasonable score of 21-12, 17-12 and 21-12.
