Carnac favourite to catch victory at Southwell
Carnac looks to be in the most favourable position to finish first in the Class 5 contest of £32 Free At 32red.Com Handicap which is scheduled to take place at Southwell racecourse on Tuesday, April 3.
For the big prize money worth £2,386, the Alan McCabe-trained grey gelding is geared up to compete against Mediterranean Sea, Shifting Gold, Ginger Grey, Light The City, Three White Socks, Gosforth Park and Yossi.
The mega marathon over 1m6f distance will commence at 3:20 (GMT). Carnac will break from Trap 5.
The talented gelding has been enjoying great form for the last four months. During December 2011, he excellently earned two runner-up ranks coupled with a big victory.
The maverick horse moved forward to finish 7th in the three subsequent outings till February 14, 2012. He nicely finished first in his last start on March 27.
Overall, the veteran runner has won 4 out of his total 44 races to date, earning £27,476 as prize money. Apart from triumphs, he has exhibited some eye-catching performances on various tracks.
If Carnac manages to run to his best, his chances to finish first in the race can be as high as 90 percent. However, some of the other runners like Mediterranean Sea and Light The City can give the hot favourite sprinter enough tough time on the track.
Mediterranean Sea won three races in a row from November 9, 2011 to February 2, 2012. After this marvellous hat-trick, the J. R. Jenkins-trained bay mare excellent earned a runner-up rank in her second last outing on March 6.
On the other hand, Light The City won a big race on March 6, 2012. Ruth Carr’s bay gelding finished 7th
in his last start on March 20. Overall, he has won 4 out of his total 37 starts to date.
In this situation, it is expected that Carnac will have to unleash utmost effort in order to make his way towards victory convincingly. Even a slight mistake can deprive him of success. Let us enjoy the heated competition and see how Carnac justifies his
favourite position. Good luck to the gelding.
