Carnegie deli?

okay so ive never been there and im going to new york next week and decided to stop by and see what all the fuss is about. ive been looking at the menu forever and have no idea what i want, Does anyone recommend anything? and tell me how do their hamburgers taste?? please respond asap

You don't go to the Carnegie Deli for a hamburger. I certainly can't tell you about those.  This is a Deli, a very over priced deli,but certainly worth the money. it's not fancy, and there aren't a lot of tables. A lot of people come in for food and leave.

As far as what to eat when you are there, well, you go there for a deli sandwich, something like corned beef, pastram, tongue,chopped liver. You can have a sandwich, always on rye with mustard,or you can order a platter.

Personally I always eat a platter of pastrami and chopped liver.  Not the most healthy food in the world, but it's such a treat.  When I worked a block away  I would just order some sliced chicken and take t back to my office and enjoy.  Ok,the place expensive,so I didn't go there daily. my father in law, who had loads of money and lived in LA part of the time and nY, ran to the Carnigie as soon as he hit NY, and this was a man who could eat anywhere. He always said the Pastrami there was the best in the world.

the burgurs are great but so are the pastrami on rye and the brisket

My recommendation is, if there's a large line waiting to get in, go across the street to the Ben Ash deli.  Less wait, better food.

Whichever deli you go to, I recommend matzoh ball soup, and either a reuben sandwich, or a corned beef/pastrami combo sandwich.

I recommend sharing with friends, even if there's an extra charge for that, because these sandwiches are usually "oversized", more than one person can reasonably eat.

I don't go to delis for the burgers, so I wouldn't know about that.

I heard that rats roam the place at night so maybe try their rat burger.  It sounds really good.

You  have to have either corned beef or pastrami.  Maybe a reuben.  You should also get a Knish.  this is true deli food.  There are better places for a hamburger.  you go here for the experience.  make sure you look around the atmosphere is great.
