Question:

Carnival Cruise Planned in June - Help with Bar Budget Please.?

I know the question has come up before but answers that I saw were too vague. So, for anyone who's recently travelled with Carnival Cruise lines (Pride is what I'm taking in June-Mexican Riviera) please update me on prices charged for various "classes" of drinks. I mostly drink sweet mixer type of drinks for cocktails- like a pomegranite, pear martini; mojito; cosmo; top shelf margarita w/ grand marnier floater. For wines I like usually very good ones and carneros chardonnay. And usually for beer, I prefer a good hefeweizen. Are these even going to be available to me? And for how much? I starting to save WAY ahead.

  1. Below are some prices and options from my cruise in 2006.  Prices have probably gone up a little since then, but in general Carnival has more reasonable drink prices than RCI.

Wines: Carnival surprised us with a great wine list.

There were two Carneros Chardonnays by the bottle:

    - Cuvaison $38 by the bottle, $9.50 by the glass

    - Beringer $31 by the bottle

Personally I love the Conundrum by Caymus, which is a blend of voignier, sauvignon blanc, chardonnay and semillon.  A total steal onboard at $42

    Higher-End Beers-

    Stella Artois $4.50

    Grolsch (16oz) $5.25

    Guinness Draught $5.25

    Foster's 750ml $5.95

    Cosmos and other martini-type drinks:

    $5.75 with house liquor

    $7.25 premium

    $8.50 ultra-premium

    All plus 15% gratuity.

By the way, there are some good pictures of Carnival Pride in this Cruise Journal:

Unfortunately, no pictures of the bar menu.  =/

When you get back, please share your pictures and experiences with us in a Cruise Journal of your own!  It's easy and free, and I'm sure people would love to get an update on the drink prices.

  2. Figure drinks will be in the $7 range and premium beer around $5.

Yes, you will be able to have your drinks that you like.  The bars are well stocked with good brands.

Do not forget that a 15% tip is automatically tacked on to each drink.

  3. I have found the prices pretty standard thru carnival. You can expect to pay between $5 -$8 for a "regular drink", including mojitos and bloody marys, most fruity concoctions and beers. Wine is sold by the glass and/or bottle, you can expect $8. and up .A 15% gratutity is added to each purchase.i have spent anywhere from $300 to $500 for my entire sail and sign for a 7 day cruise, although I do pre-pay my excursions prior to sailing. I am leaving on the Pride on the 23rd so I'd have a better idea afterwards. Have fun

  4. There is a drink of the day which is really good.  That's roughly $5 a drink.  You get a souvenir glass on day one for $6.50 and then get it refilled each day for $5.  The drink of the day special is not just for that drink, but any of the drinks of the day, so if you really liked yesterdays....  But you can order anything and roughly it will be $8.  Bottles of wine prices are really good too.  Basically $20-30 per bottle.   They also keep your bottle so if you don't finish it, they bring it back out the next night.   If you like beer, it's cheaper to get their Bucket of Beer special than order each beer.

I drank a few drinks every day and I think we spent about $300-400.

  5. If you buy beer in 5 bottle buckets by the pool, you save $1.50.

Yeah, drinks aren't cheap on board. Many ppl go find a watering hole on land, but don't be late to be back on board.

Bloody Mary's and screwdrivers are discounted on the Lido Deck in the mornings.

Pound as many drinks as you can at the Captain's Gala, they are complementary. Also, there is liquor tasting on the Promenade on night #1. You can sample coconut rum and the like.

In addition to purchasing drinks on board, most ppl tote a pint or two in their luggage. You go up on top and bring back lemonaide for mixing material.

Bon voyage. Don't get too tipsy, though. A day dazed is a day lost.
