  1. That's basically it. The older ones (Celebration, Ecstasy, Elation, Fantasy, Fascination, Holiday, Imagination, Inspiration, Paradise, and Sensation) don't have the "Carnival" in their name. Some of these have been recently refurbished, though, but in general, they are smaller and have fewer amenities, no balcony cabins (only in suites), etc.

  2. they changed for marketing reasons.

The ships class is also defined by the first of the "format".

For example the Carnival Fantasy was the first of its kind, so it named the class. Elation, Ecstasy, Immagination and a few others are all FANTASY class.

Spirit created a class, but since they didnt make any sister ships... no more Spirt class.

Then they made the Legend, Legend class as the Pride and another one are called.

As far as dropping Carnival I think its just marketing...

  3. There is a huge travel outfit called Liberty travel.  To avoid copyright infringement, anytime they have a vessel, which has a name similar to anything in the travel industry, they add the carnival prefix.

    Boaz.
