Germany’s Carola Bott has entered into the Women’s Singles semi-final after beating Slovenia’s Spela Silvester, in the quarter-final of the Slovenia International 2011, at Medvode, Slovenia, on Saturday, May 14.
Fourth seed, Carola, took three sets of 57 minutes to chuck out Spela, who had thrashed Agata Swist of Poland in the round-of-16. In the semi-final, the German will face Airi Mikkela of Finland, who defeated the Second seed, Simone Prutsch of Austria.
In the first set, Carola remained far ahead of Spela by playing on a different level. Her quick reflexes at the net pushed the opponent on the back foot. At the interval, the German was leading the game by an 11-7 margin. After the break, she remained on
the right track and won the first set by a decent margin of 21-16, in 20 minutes.
Spela bounced back aggressively in the second game. She eliminated all of her previous mistakes by picking the bird more early from all areas of the court. Carola made many unforced errors and was trailing behind her opponent at 6-11. After the interval,
Spela stretched her lead and spared no chance for the German to fight back in the game. She grabbed the set in just 15 minutes by a 21-13 margin.

After the break, both shuttlers again played superb badminton, exhibiting some scintillating shots. Spela was leading the game at 16-14, where Carola changed her tactics which worked well and she scored six points in a row, to turn the deficit into a 20-16
lead. Her shot selection and perfect execution of strokes earned her the all-important lead.
At this crucial stage of the match, Spela increased her pace and score three-points to reach 19-20. Carola then scored the decider and won the game by a 21-19 difference, in 24 minutes. The German won this 57-minute fight by a 21-16, 13-21 and 21-19 margin.
