Carolina Hurricanes Jussi Jokinen may be heading back to Finnish Club -NHL Lockout Update
According to Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News and Observer, Jussi Jokinen of the Carolina Hurricanes is headed back to Karpat, a club in the Finnish hockey league in view of the lockout that is just not seeming to end.
With no end in sight to the work stoppage that has plagued the National Hockey League (NHL) for nearly three months now, fans could witness the take off of a number of NHLers in the upcoming days, including some major ones like Pittsburgh Penguins’ captain,
Sidney Crsoby.
This will be the third time that Jokinen is heading out of North America to play abroad during the lockout, with the first and second being in October and November, respectively. Up until now during the current deadlock, Jokinen has managed to play in a
total of 14 games and has 14 points to his name as well during that timeframe, but there is no telling for how long he may be gone this time around.
Jussi Jokinen is a 29-year-old left winger who was drafted by the Dallas Stars during round-six of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft as the 192nd overall. The native of Kalajoki, Finland, has it easy returning to his country of origin and is able to get
a position playing due to his history with the team.
He made his debut in the North American major league during the 2005-2006 regular season, which was just after a full locked out hockey year and potted 55 points (17 goals, 38 assists) in 81 games played. 2009-2010 was his best hockey season to date as the
Finnish forward potted 65 points (30 goals, 35 assists) in 81 games to boost his career total to 536 appearances and 335 points (115 goals, 220 assist) and 208 minutes in penalty time.
Jokinen is also locked on to the Carolina Hurricanes with a three-year, $9 million contract which he signed prior to the 2011-2012 regular season and will be making him an unrestricted free agent after the 2013-2014 regular season.
It will be interesting to follow Jussi Jokinen this time around for sure until the lockout comes to an end.
