Carolina Hurricanes come up with a much expected 6-4 win against the Toronto Maple Leafs
The first game of the Monday and the 729th game of 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series took place at the RBC Centre. An attendance of around 16,000 fans came to witness the match which was the 48th game of the season for the Toronto
Maple Leafs and the 49th game of the season.
Carolina Hurricanes led by a goal as the final period started but Toronto Maple managed to level the scores. The final period turned out to be a goals fiesta which saw seven goals being scored during the 20 minutes of play. In the end, Carolina Hurricanes
emerged as 6-4 winners of the match. Brandon Sutter, centre of the Carolina Hurricanes was named the star selection of the match for the two goals he scored.
Both teams made a slow start to the match after which the game took pace which was as expected. The match both teams coming up with decent goal attempts but they weren’t able to convert the chances into goals.
It took some time for the first goal to be scored but was finally scored in the 13th minute. Joe Corvo’s tip in shot put Carolina Hurricanes in the lead. Both teams continued to wait for chances to come their way. It looked as if the period would
see no further when suddenly Toronto Maple Leafs successfully scored through Tomas Kaberle from a decent backhand shot to level the scores in the final minute.
The period ended with the scores level on 1-1 with Carolina Hurricanes making 6 goal attempts in the period while Toronto Maple Leafs made 5 goal attempts.
The second saw both teams change their strategies. The attacking mentality adopted by both sides resulted in both teams cancelling out each other. However, despite the similarity in the approach to the game there were several goal attempts for both sides.
Again it took some time for the first and only goal to be scored which was again in favour of the Carolina Hurricanes. The goal was scored by Jamie McBain from a powerful long range shot that went flying into the net. There were dozens of goal attempts made
by both sides as the period came to an end.
The period didn’t see any further goals as the period ended with Carolina Hurricanes leading 2-1. During the period, Carolina Hurricanes made 15 goal attempts while Toronto Maple Leafs made 14 goal attempts.
The final period started off with the Carolina Hurricanes scoring in the 2nd minute through Brandon Sutter to double their lead. It didn’t take long for the Toronto Maple Leafs to respond this time as they scored two goals in quick succession.
Both the goals were scored by Tim Brent with the first from a spectacular backhand shot and the second from a decent flick shot.
With the scores level things heated up but it was Toronto Maple Leafs who successfully scored two goals in the 9th and 11th minutes respectively to pull away from the Carolina Hurricanes. The first goal was scored by Brandon Sutter
while the second was scored by Jeff Skinner.
Toronto Maple Leafs managed to cut the lead to one goal once again in the 15th minute through Mike Brown’s tip in shot. However, Carolina Hurricanes sealed the match scoring the final goal in the final minute through Erik Cole.
The result was Carolina Hurricanes winning the match 6-4 in the end. During the course of the period Carolina Hurricanes made 8 goal attempts while Toronto Maple Leafs made 10 goal attempts.
