Carolina Hurricanes dedicated to get better with Jordan Staal, Alexander Semin signings -NHL Update
There are hardly any teams that made a huge impact during this year’s National Hockey League (NHL) offseason, but the limited amount which actually did, Carolina Hurricanes are somewhere near the top of the list.
When the Hurricanes surprisingly and amazingly managed to break Jordan Staal from Pittsburgh Penguins, they rocked the hockey world in bringing on a player who many thought was perfectly content where he already was.
For all of this, credit has to go to one man and one many only. Carolina Hurricanes’ general manager, Jim Rutherford, worked day and night to make the magic happen and he did so with his team’s future in mind. Making a few quick fixes might have made the
difference right next season but Carolina would have to struggle yet again later on.
Surprisingly, Carolina was also going after Nashville Predators’ defenseman Ryan Suter and  New Jersey Devils’ captain, Zach Parise, but ultimately got their hands on Pittsburgh Penguins Jordan Staal and Washington Capitals’ Alexander Semin.
"What's nice about what we did with Alex Semin is we got a talented player, we didn't lock in for a long period of time and then find out it's not working, and we didn't have to trade for him,” the GM said.
With the most recent signing being of Alexander Semin, the Carolina Hurricanes are definitely happy seeing that he was ranked second on their free-agent list after the hockey year came to an end by the pro scouts.
"We had our pro scouting meetings and he was second on our free-agent list behind [Zach] Parise at the end of the year," Rutherford said. "And then what we do in-house with any player is we use analytics, and his numbers were extremely high. For his critics
that don't do the same homework we do, those numbers would certainly indicate he's quite a bit different player than people suggest."
Carolina Hurricanes are certainly much stronger, more than they could have possibly imagined prior to making the trades happen. With Jordan Staal reunited with brother and captain, Eric Staal, along with a top level forward like Alexander Semin, the Hurricanes
and fans have a lot to look forward to next season.
